We’re still here!!!

Life has been pretty fickle and throwing massive curveballs at me lately. My 76 year old mom had a heart valve replacement procedure 2 weeks ago and is experiencing some pretty extreme post operative delirium. I’ve been dealing with that side of things and then the weather has been complete crap the past 3 weeks for dog walks. On the plus side, I’ve been waiting until Dudley gets up and goes to the door to go out or if I get the leash and he just rolls back on the bed, we call it good. If he really needs to go out, he will let me know. His new furhaven bed is working out for him. I actually stacked it on top of his old futon bed and he is absolutely happy with it. No worries about his leg getting caught up and he has the cushion and the firmness underneath…and I didn’t have to find a new place for the expensive bed.

Being silly, rolling around on his back 😉

crashed out….

We had a moment last week when I had to drag him off the bed…and out the door. We were going over to my sister’s house to do laundry and hang out but once he got over there, he was so happy!!! He’s getting better with car rides, still not enjoying them but they aren’t the end of the world. He is still a butt about ignoring me when he’s running up the driveway to my neighbor’s house. He did that last night and it actually was what I needed, to just sit with my neighbors and chat for an hour so that was ok. We will be dog sitting for them next month for 2 or 3 weeks so I’m glad he feels like it is his second home.

  1. Yikes I hope your mom starts to get her sparkle back soon. Sorry you are dealing with that issue.

Thankfully it’s sure looks like Dudley knows he needs to be chill at a time like this and go with the flow. What a good boy!

    1. Mom is doing so much better! She is getting a lot of her memory and function in her hands back so we are super happy about that! She is able to start taking Dudley out for a short walk while I am at work which is good for both of them. He is so amazing walking with her and takes his time and goes slow. He also goes over to visit and lay on the floor. He has zero prey drive and is respectful of their cats. He’s actually the most chill house guest, he just wants a little attention and snacks and then finds a place to lay down and nap.

  2. Dudley looks soooo comfy in his custom designed bed!!! He is just the cutest thing evvvver!

And I love how he just “knew” you needed a visit with your neighbor so that’s why he ignored you trying to get him back up the drive. Such a smart boy.
Wishing the best for your Mom to have a speedy recovery. I know those surgeries can cause some challenges in the beginning but even things get better. Just be sure and make some “care time” for you!!
Extra smooches to handsome Dudley 🥰
    Hugs
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

    1. Thanks Sally! Dudley is pretty adorable on his bed 😉 And don’t give him too much credit, he loves to run up the driveway to their house. The other day we were outside with their dogs at the bottom of the hill and he ran up and discovered they left the front door open. He went inside and checked the food dishes for leftover crumbs and made himself at home on their many dog beds. He’s like Goldilocks! We discovered after mom’s MRI that she had a couple of small strokes after the surgery that didn’t get caught on a CT scan. She’s getting little bits back every day, thank goodness <3

  3. Glad your Mom 8s making progress and at least you have some answers ad to what was going on.
You had me cracking up reading about Dudley Antics going into the neighbor’s house! That was just too funny!
Dudley is a version of Goldilocks indeed!

    1. He is just the funniest dog ever. Totally standoffish with me, especially when I’m trying to get him to do something he doesn’t want to do…but he loves visiting other people and their houses. I went from a complete velcro dog (my GSD) to a dog who is all “keep the food and walks coming but don’t expect me to do what you want when you want”…I absolutely adore Dudley and have come to terms with the fact that he doesn’t need to show affection as much, he lived the first few years of his life on the streets and isn’t used to completely adoring his human. I do find him on his bed staring at the back of my head in the evenings and he will be silly and let me snuggle him…he is much more like a cat, but I am very used to cats…I’ve only been a dog mom for the past 7 years and a cat mom for all of my life. His foster mom, who absolutely adores him and wouldn’t have let him go if she had space for him, said that he will be happy to see you when you come home from work but doesn’t know how to accept affection or play. I have a street cat that we brought back to Oregon with us from Virginia in 2013. It took 3 years for her to let me touch her after flying her across the country. Now, she sleeps on me every night so I can be patient! It’s only been 6 months since Dudley came to his forever home. I have a feeling that it will take about a full year for us to get settled.
